Protection and Assistance for Victims of Human Trafficking

At PSI Background Screening, we understand the complex challenges faced by victims of human trafficking. Our specialized programs offer victims of human trafficking help, encompassing a range of services designed to empower and aid in the recovery process. Our approach to protection and assistance for victims of human trafficking is holistic, focusing on both immediate needs and long-term rehabilitation.

PSI Background Screening proudly offers dedicated and empathetic support when it comes to the protection of and assistance for victims of human trafficking.

We assist victims of human trafficking in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act amendment of section 605(c) regulation V, under the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). This amendment allows victims of human trafficking to submit trafficking documentation to background screening providers, also referred to as consumer reporting agencies, and credit bureaus to block adverse information that resulted from their human trafficking.

Based on the CFPB requirements, to make a request to PSI regarding blocking information in your background report, please provide the following:

1. Submission of Appropriate Proof of Identity. This can be done through confirmation questions by contacting our office or by providing government-issued documentation, such as a driver’s license or social security number card scan through your secured background link. Examples of appropriate identifiers include:

  • First, middle, and last name
  • Any previously used names
  • Current or most recent address, including street number and name, apartment or unit number, city, state, and zip code
  • Social Security Number
  • Date of birth

2. Victim Determination Documentation. Documentation that a consumer (applicant) is a victim of trafficking made by one of the following:

  • A federal, state, or tribal government entity
  • An organization or human trafficking task force, including victim service providers affiliated with these entities, authorized by a federal, state, or tribal government
  • A self-attestation by the consumer (applicant) who identifies as a victim of trafficking and is signed or certified by a federal, state, or tribal government entity, court jurisdiction, or an authorized representative of one of these entities

Any requested documentation for identity or attestation purposes can be uploaded securely to PSI via our applicant portal. At your request, an invitation for the documentation will be emailed to allow for secure submission.

3. Identified Adverse Items of Information and Preferred Contact Method.

  • As a victim of trafficking, you are required to identify the adverse items of information that should not be furnished because they were the result of a severe form of trafficking in persons or sex trafficking. This may consist of a statement by you or a designated representative
  • Submit a preferred method of contact for PSI to reach you, either electronically or in writing. We will only use this communication method

If a request to block information related to human trafficking is made, PSI will do the following:

  • Temporarily block the requested adverse information from your report within 4 business days
  • Notify you if there is any missing information or deficits in the information you provided within 5 business days
  • Review the submission and make a final decision regarding blocking the information permanently or if the block will be withdrawn within 25 business days
  • Notify you of the outcome and provide you with a revised copy of your report at no cost via your preferred communication method within 5 business days of the final decision
