Formerly known as the National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS), the PBSA is the preeminent authority when it comes to the evaluation of background check companies and the quality of the services they provide.
The PBSA identified early on that there was a need for a uniform industry standard in the field of background screening. This led to the creation of the Background Screening Agency Accreditation Program (BSAAP). To become a PBSA accredited background check company, an organization must prove both their current and ongoing compliance with all accreditation standards as dictated by the Background Screening Credentialing Council (BSCC).
The PBSA requires background screening agencies to pass a rigorous set of on-site audits of both policies and procedures to ensure that the following items are in line with BSCC standards:
- General business practices
- Consumer protection
- Compliance with the law
- Client education
- Product standards
- Service standards
